The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).
An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Sexual Assault Counsellor on a permanent part time basis, working 32 hours per week.
The role of Sexual Assault Counsellor is responsible for the provision of specialist therapeutic and case management services to adults and children who have been sexually assaulted or who are under the age of 10 years with problematic and sexually harmful behaviours, and their non-offending family members.
The role will entail both crisis and ongoing counselling interventions, assessment, advocacy, case work, training facilitation and community development work. The successful candidate will be part of a highly supportive tertiary trauma counselling service that fosters ongoing professional development. You will also be provided with substantial internal and external clinical supervision, peer support and cultural supervision to both increase skills and support continued wellbeing in a role that handles much sensitive information.
This is a female identified role and will also participate in the provision of a 24/7 crisis counselling roster. The role can be negotiated to either work primarily from Lemongrove (Penrith) or Lithgow.
The Sexual Assault Service is aligned with Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) which develops policy and supports services for children, young people and adults who are victims of violence, abuse or neglect.
