About the role

Put your passion to purpose! As the Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Advocate, working within early intervention and prevention, you will directly contribute to improving the lives of others. Reporting to the General Manager, Multicultural Support Services, you will provide specialised person-centred advocacy support, education and advice to Women, children and families accessing MercyCare Services who may need additional support due to Family Domestic Violence. You will be based at our modern and spacious Mirrabooka office, working standard weekly hours on a full time permanent basis.

As an Advocate you will be working closely with other MercyCare staff and support your colleagues’ understanding of FDV and screening for prevention and early intervention of FDV. The critical part of this role is direct work with families, identifying and assessing current or potential Domestic Violence risks providing tailored education opportunities and other support services.

About you

You will be passionate about advocating for those requiring support and guidance, and apply a responsive, flexible, person centred approach at all times. The successful applicant will have the innate ability to foster relationships, building trust and confidence in those they advocate for, supported by substantial experience and knowledge of Family Domestic Violence practices with a particular focus on Prevention and Early Intervention in the FDV.

As well as demonstrating well developed communication, interpersonal and coaching skills, you will work effectively in culturally diverse environments. Demonstrated resilience is key in an environment where no two days are the same and quick decision making is often required.

With a passion for supporting women and children your key experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualification in human services (social work, psychology, counselling) or relevant field is desirable
  • Extensive case management experience using a trauma informed approach
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments and forming positive working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of family and domestic violence issues effecting both women and children
  • Skills in facilitation, leadership and advocacy
  • Knowledge of Government and community agencies and resources that assist families impacted by family and domestic violence or homelessness
  • Drivers Licence
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • National Police Clearance (issued within the last six months)
