Head of Individual Giving - Foodbank NSW/ACT

Impact Advising
  • An opportunity to lead a small team and oversee a thriving individual giving program supported by their agency partner Donor Republic.
  • Full-time or 9-day fortnight can be considered. Hybrid work arrangements on offer.
  • A collaborative and passionate team committed to providing food relief.

Impact of the organisation

Foodbank provides essential food and groceries to more than 1 million vulnerable Australians every year. To do this, we work with the entire Australian food and grocery sector including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers who donate and redirect surplus product to us so we can make it available to charities providing emergency food relief.

Foodbank NSW & ACT is a not-for-profit, federated organisation who support over 1,100 schools and place-based organisations right across NSW and ACT.

Each month we provide 337,000 households with food and grocery assistance. Despite Foodbank’s scale and capacity, we are currently only meeting half the need. Foodbank is looking for likeminded people to join the team and support our mission to ensure everyone has access quality food and essentials when they need it.

Impact of this opportunity

As the Head of Individual Giving, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimising the strategy for Foodbank NSW & ACT’s individual giving programs. You will manage integrated cash appeals, regular giving, acquisition, retention, and digital efforts, all while expanding planned giving and mid-value programs.

  • Collaborate closely with agencies on acquisition and conversion strategies for both cash and regular donor programs, ensuring seamless digital integration across various channels.
  • Manage the regular giving life cycle from acquisition and onboarding to upgrades, payment recovery, and stewardship, while overseeing F2F/telemarketing efforts and reporting on agency deliverables.
  • Oversee income and expenditure budgets and forecasts for all individual giving programs, partnering with the Chief Marketing and Fundraising Officer to prepare reports and business cases that support new initiatives and investment strategies.
  • Work with the Data team to define data requirements, perform supporter segmentation, and report on program performance.
  • Develop and execute a multi-channel direct marketing plan for annual appeals across all channels.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop and implement supporter journeys and marketing strategies, while encouraging cross-collaboration between financial donors, volunteers, and food donors.
  • Lead the development of a planned giving program, focusing on mid-value giving and bequests, and work closely with the Philanthropy team to streamline pipeline procedures.
  • Actively contribute as a member of the Fundraising & Marketing leadership group, working to make a meaningful impact on the lives of everyday Australians.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in an individual giving / direct marketing or similar role.
  • Proven success in leading and managing diverse individual giving channels and portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement donor retention and acquisition strategies that meet budget and growth targets.
  • Experience in leading or collaborating with agencies to design and execute multi-channel acquisition, retention, and loyalty programs.
  • Data-driven mindset with a strong understanding of data and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), coupled with analytical skills for effective reporting.
  • Ability to innovate and apply best fundraising practices to achieve results.
  • Proven experience in managing projects, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders, and a passion for engaging directly with people to support fundraising efforts.
