A major support mechanism within our training programs is our hardworking mentorship team who work closely with all participants to develop self-esteem, increase the growth mindset and holistic support on specifics around what job as student wants and the steps required to get there. We continue to listen, grow and learn from First Nations team members.

Position Summary

We are seeking First Nations Mentors to support adult learners. As a mentor, you will work closely with learners from First Nations and other backgrounds across our current program offerings in Technology and Care industries. Your role is to offer personalised, one-on-one guidance and culturally safe support that helps build their confidence and prepare them for the workforce.

You will support learners to:

  • Set and articulate clear personal, study, and employment goals
  • Stay motivated and engaged with their training
  • Navigate challenges or life events that may affect their progress
  • Build practical job-seeking skills such as interview techniques, resume writing, and professional communication
  • Celebrate their achievements

We are looking for mentors who are passionate about walking alongside First Nations learners, offering encouragement, practical tools, and a listening ear to help them reach their goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor participants whilst they complete an intensive employment training program.
  • Follow a structured mentor approach with each mentee, whilst adapting types of support in response to the mentee’s needs.
  • Provided feedback on a mentees job interview skills, CV, cover letters and employment profiles.
  • Work with Program staff to ensure mentees are able to successfully complete their training and find employment.
  • Flag potential risk for mentees in a timely manner and offer appropriate support
  • Escalate issues in line with the Generation Escalation Policy
  • Work with our Mentor Coordinator and mentor team to improve our ability to offer meaningful coaching techniques and resources
  • Responsible for accurate and timely data collection to help inform program evaluation and monitor impact.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with First Nations community, social services, or employment support or previous experience supporting First Nations peoples in educational or employment contexts
  • Ability to work online and with online platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in building trust and rapport
  • A genuine passion for supporting First Nations learners in achieving their goals
  • Confidence working with people who may be navigating complex personal challenges
  • Knowledge of job-seeking and employment practices (CVs, cover letters, interview preparation, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Strong organisational skills, time management, and ability to work independently

An understanding of the barriers faced by jobseekers from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.
