Purpose of the role 

The Senior Learning Designer will play a key role in a new Learning Design team, using their expertise in adult learning to create high-quality, evidence-based professional learning for school and early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals.

Working closely with subject matter experts, researchers, and educators, they will translate complex education research into accessible, relevant learning experiences, while continuously improving design processes that centre on the real-world needs and contexts of teachers, leaders and educators across Australia.

Accountabilities: 

  • Design professional learning products that help educational professionals in school and ECEC settings to implement evidence-based practices.
  • Work with subject matter experts and AERO publications and communications teams to ensure consistent user experiences across AERO professional learning products.
  • Develop and undertake quality assurance activities, including user testing, to inform product development and design and ensure deliverables are of a high standard.
  • Provide strategic advice to inform the design of learning products across the organisation.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

Essential requirements: 

  • Degree level qualification in education, learning/instructional design, educational psychology, or another relevant discipline.

Desirable knowledge and experience:

  • Extensive experience in all aspects of designing learning products for adults, with a strong knowledge of evidence-based approaches for designing effective learning.
  • Experience in user-centred design processes for learning products, including developing and leading user testing.
  • Experience, and/or knowledge, of the complexities of schools and/or early education and care settings, including working with teachers and educators in these environments.
  • Experience in making complex information accessible to audiences with varying degrees of background knowledge, including through the development of visual representations.

Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with an ability to translate technical and complex information for audiences with a range of learning needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including subject matter experts and production teams.
