About the Business Unit:

The Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) branch is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). The VSSR is responsible for operating a suite of services for victims of crime that provide information and support to help manage the effects of crime and guide victims through the criminal justice system across Victoria.

The Child and Youth Witness Service (CYWS) is a state wide specialist case management service for child witnesses (up to 18 years at the time charges were laid) and their families and/or carers. The model of care is child focused and incorporates principles of trauma informed care. The purpose of the CYWS is to increase participation by child witnesses in the criminal justice process and to reduce trauma associated with being involved with the criminal justice system, particularly being a child witness.

The role of the CYWS is to:

  • Provide specialist end-to-end case management of child witnesses' contact with the criminal justice system.
  • Provide information to child witnesses and their families about the criminal justice system, how it works, their role as a witness and the roles and responsibilities of other people involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies providing support to child witnesses and their families, including: Intermediaries providing expert communication or developmental assessments; legal teams; police; and courts, to support child witnesses.

About the Role:

As a Team Manager, Child and Youth Witness Service, some of your duties will include:

  • Leading and managing a high performing team of Practitioners, resourcing the team to provide comprehensive child focused specialist case management services, through fostering motivation, innovation, creativity, skill and knowledge development, teamwork, and self-care
  • Leading change management activity that ensures business as usual while complying with consultation and negotiation activities
  • Actively contributing to the identification of emerging issues, develop proposals for action for service improvement and execute agreed plans.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • The ability to develop business plans to deliver on evolving organisational priorities
  • The ability to creatively develop options in a changing organisational environment
  • The ability to initiate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at peer or senior levels
  • The ability to manage a discrete function with increased budget, staff responsibilities, or sensitive or complex issues.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a human service related profession such as Social Work, Psychology or Allied Health is essential. Registration with the appropriate body is desired
  • At least three years of staff management experience is preferred.
