About us

Canteen is all about supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Founded by young cancer patients, we offer programs and resources that truly make a difference for 12-25 year-olds facing their own diagnosis, supporting a loved one, or grieving. We are now seeking a Finance Assistant who will play a crucial role in supporting the Finance Team by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this role is responsible for bank reconciliations, accounts payable, corporate credit card management, and monthly reconciliations. The role is also responsible for managing finance-related email correspondence and ensuring all financial queries are directed to the appropriate team member. Additionally, the role will provide support for financial systems, learning core finance system functions.

About our role

  • Perform weekly reconciliations of Canteen’s bank accounts.
  • Ensure purchase order workflows are followed, including prompting managers to clear approvals in their queues.
  • Convert purchase orders into bills, ensuring correct coding and segmentation.
  • Prepare payment files
  • Resolve accounts payable issues, including reconciling supplier statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of corporate credit cards.
  • Manage and reconcile the suspense account and assist the Senior Accountant in reconciling other balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure all finance-related queries are assigned to the appropriate team member and addressed promptly.
  • Develop an understanding of Canteen’s financial systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, FlexiPurchase) to assist in troubleshooting and process improvements.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, commerce or accounting desirable, though not essential.
  • 1-2 years experience in finance and accounts administration.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial processing.
  • Experience with NetSuite (preferred) or similar ERP systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Proactive and eager to contribute to the finance team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Warm, compassionate, and friendly approach to supporting our young people.

Employment Expectations
