About the Program

The East Arnhem Communities for Children (EA C4C) initiative works with Community Partners and stakeholders to support activities which meet local needs and reflect the aspirations of communities within the region. EA C4C encourages cross sector collaboration, partnerships and the development of language-based resources, alongside two-way learning in the areas of early childhood, children’s services and family support.

About the Opportunity

As the Project Officer you will work alongside our East Arnhem Children’s Services (EACS) team to provide essential project, operational, stakeholder, and administrative support. You'll leverage your understanding of community needs to identify service gaps and potential partners for the Community for Children's Initiative. Your role will involve building the capacity of remote teams to deliver culturally informed, evidence-based programs, and fostering collaborative, child-friendly practices, especially in Groote Eylandt, the Gove Peninsula, and Gapuwiyak.

This position has the option to be based in Darwin or Nhulunbuy. If based in Darwin, travel to Nhulunbuy would be on a regular basis. Applicants wishing to be based in Nhulunbuy would need to have their own accommodation. Please consider this before applying.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Science / Community Development or complimentary field of study.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in relevant community service roles within the non-government sector
  • Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully within Indigenous community-based settings and with culturally and linguistically diverse program participants, staff and stakeholders, particularly Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, in order to improve early childhood outcomes
  • Ability to support the design, delivery and strengthening of evidence based culturally informed early childhood, children's and family support programs operating in remote locations
  • Willingness to travel to remote locations via light aircraft or ferry and overnight stays in remote communities or small regional centres.
