Who are we looking for?
The Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) is the peak industry forum for the recycling sector. We are a non-profit organisation, committed to leading the transition to a circular economy through the resource recovery, remanufacturing and recycling value chain.
We are seeking a professional and proactive Policy and Communications Officer to support the Chief Executive Officer in targeted communications and policy development. This is part time, flexible role, suited to somebody who is comfortable with a self-directed workload, and prides themselves on their initiative, enthusiasm, collaborative spirit and attention to detail.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Outstanding persuasive writing, communication and research skills – essentially a writing perfectionist
- An understanding of public policy development, consultation processes and advocacy
- A passion for the circular economy
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Write in a range of formats to support ACOR’s advocacy for a thriving recycling sector, including: policy responses, submissions, media releases and articles.
- Monitor State and Federal level policies and programs relating to priority areas and provide considered advice about appropriate organisational responses as required.
- Facilitate consultation processes with industry stakeholders to inform policy positions.
- Participate in external policy forums, to support ACOR advocacy priorities.
- Where appropriate, consider opportunities for research and analysis on existing and emerging issues relating to resource recovery, recycling and remanufacturing, in the context of a circular economy.
- Development and delivery of communications and engagement plan to support ACOR’s strategic priorities.
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Outstanding written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly.
- An understanding of government and political processes.
- Experience in research, analysis and policy development.
- Advanced computer and web skills, including a proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to interact professionally and confidently with a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a small team and ability to deliver outputs within short timeframes.
- Ability to work part-time during office hours.
